John Protopappas founded Madison Park Financial Corporation in 1983 and has since been actively developing and managing commercial and residential projects in the Bay Area. As one of the pioneers of live/work housing development in Oakland, Mr. Protopappas has transformed many neglected properties into safe and livable spaces such as, Telegraph Lofts at the site of the former Sears Roebuck store in Oakland; Lampwork Lofts at the site of the former General Electric lamp manufacturing facility and the Bakery Lofts at the site of the former Remar Bakery. The projects’ continued popularity and profitability are testaments to Mr. Protopappas’ visionary approach and real estate acumen.

Under Mr. Protopappas’ leadership, Madison Park has become known as one of the few real estate developers able to construct new market-rate housing during down cycles. Mr.Protopappas is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with an A.B. in Economics. He served on the Port of Oakland’s Board of Commissioners from 2000 to 2007 and as its president from 2004-2005. Mr. Protopappas currently serves on the Board of Directors of Summit Bank, the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Foundation and the Oakland Police Foundation.
